How Our Mediation Works
Free 15-Min Consultation
Book a free 15 minute consultation to determine whether divorce mediation is the right fit for your situation or if you would be better suited with an uncontested separation agreement. Learn more about why mediation is becoming more popular. If it is the right fit for you, you will then receive the legal services agreement for signature, verify your identity virtually, and both you and your partner will each complete our intake questionnaire independently.
Intake Meeting & Questionnaires
Once signed up, you and your partner will each meet with mediator for a one-hour intake. The intake meeting is included in your flat-fee of $2,750 each. During the intake meeting, your mediator will gather information and determine what is agree upon and what needs to be mediated.
Mediation Sessions
You and your former spouse attend virtual sessions with our accredited lawyer mediator. We work through the issues collaboratively to help you reach a fair agreement. If you do not want to be in the same virtual room as your former spouse, our virtual meeting rooms allow us to communicate with you separately. Our packages include two 2-hour sessions.
Draft Agreement
Our mediator drafts your separation agreement reflecting the terms discussed in your sessions. Both parties review the draft and revisions are made if needed.
Independent Legal Advice & Signing
Each party meets with a separate lawyer for independent legal advice to ensure the agreement is enforceable. We can provide referrals for this of lawyers who work for fair rates and virtually. Finally, you sign virtually and receive your closing letter.
Transparent Pricing
Fees and payments

Meet Our Mediators

Our Approach is Collaborative,
Not Combative
Working with a neutral mediator you and your ex-spouse have a way to resolve parenting, support, and financial issues together instead of through litigation (expensive court battles). Mediation can be faster, more affordable, and less adversarial than going to court. We understand the law so you’ll receive a drafted separation agreement that will easily receive a certificate of independent legal advice.
Our process is designed for no conflict, low conflict, and medium conflict separations where both parties are willing to work toward resolution outside of the court room.
What Is Divorce Mediation in Ontario?
Divorce mediation is a process where an accredited family lawyer facilitates negotiation between you and your former spouse. The mediator does not make decisions for you or “take sides.” Instead, their role is to guide discussions and help both parties reach voluntary agreements while understanding what is allowed under the Ontario Family Law Act.
Unlike litigation, the process stays private and both people stay in control of the outcome rather than leaving decisions to a judge. You do not have to hire two lawyers to fight it out.
With flat rates, at Angrove Law, we are incentivized to help you reach a resolution efficiently, saving you money and emotional toll.
In Ontario, a mediated divorce agreement carries the same legal weight as any other separation agreement once signed properly.
Because a mediator remains neutral, both parties should still receive independent legal advice before signing the final agreement. We build that step into every file we handle. With a mediator-lawyer working on your case there will be less amendments (if any) then a non lawyer mediator.
Divorce vs. Mediation vs. Litigation
These processes are often confused, but they work very differently.
In a collaborative divorce, each person hires their own lawyer and everyone works together through a series of meetings. With collaborative divorce, many lawyers are still incentivized by the billable hour. Even though you agreed not to go to court, which is why it is collaborative, this process can drag on and still increase conflict.
Mediation uses one neutral mediator who helps both parties negotiate directly and reach agreement together. When using a mediator-lawyer you and your former spouse get all of the same information in understanding how the law in Ontario works. You are incentivized to come to a resolution.
Litigation involves each side hiring their own lawyer and ultimately asking a judge to decide unresolved issues in court. With court delays, this can be a long, emotionally draining, and expensive process.
For many couples in Toronto, this is the fastest, least adversarial, and most cost effective of the three options. That is because the process can address nearly every separation issue, including parenting arrangements, support, property division, pensions, business interests, and the matrimonial home.
Still, mediation is not appropriate for every situation. Cases involving family violence, serious power imbalances, or one party who is actively lying about many aspects of their case, such as using forgery, are usually better handled through separate legal representation and the court process.
Our accredited family mediators are also practising Ontario lawyers, meaning they understand both the legal and practical implications of the agreements being negotiated.

What Topics Are Covered
Angrove Law’s flat-rate process can help you and your former spouse work through almost every legal and financial piece of your separation, property, support, parenting, debt, without putting it in a judge’s hands. Once you reach an agreement, it’s put in writing as a separation agreement. Under Section 52 of the Family Law Act, a mediated separation agreement carries the same legal weight as any other domestic contract.
We regularly address the following issues:
The Equalization Table: What Is It and Why Does It Matter?
An equalization table is a financial document that lists each spouse’s assets and debts at the date of marriage and then their value at the date of separation. We then calculate the growth of each asset and determine whether that growth should be split between the spouses or remain with the owner of the asset. What growth is shared or not shared is defined by the Family Law Act unless you have a marriage contract. We then calculate any equalization payment owing between you and your spouse, and determine whether we can make any trade-offs for your particular circumstance.
In Ontario, married spouses are generally entitled to equalization of net family property under the Family Law Act, unless they set their own terms in a marriage contract. An equalization table helps create a fair agreement providing our mediator-lawyers will the full picture to determine who gets what upon separation. Common law spouses are treated differently, which is one reason a clear written cohabitation agreement is especially important for common-law couples.
Angrove Law includes an equalization table in your package. For couples with more complex finances or multiple properties a detailed equalization spreadsheet with tax implications is available as an optional add-on for $975/person.

Why Choose Angrove Law?
FAQs on Divorce Mediation in Ontario
How much does divorce mediation cost in Ontario?
Angrove Law offers three flat fee divorce mediation tiers depending on the level of conflict involved. Our no conflict separation agreement process is $2,695 total, low conflict mediation starts at $2,750 per person, and medium conflict mediation starts at $4,995 per person. Divorce, in the courtroom or as a negotiation between two lawyers, is typically more expensive and often lasts much longer.
Is mediation right for us?
Mediation works best when both parties are willing to communicate, exchange financial information, and both want to come to a resolution as efficiently as possible. It is usually not appropriate in situations involving family violence, serious power imbalances, or active bad faith negotiations like fraud or forgery. Our consultation process helps determine whether mediation makes sense for your situation.
What is the difference between mediation and litigation?
In mediation, both parties work with one neutral mediator to reach a voluntary agreement together. In litigation, each person hires and pays their own lawyer who present facts to the court or follows the court procedure for negotiations and unresolved issues are ultimately decided by a judge. For many people mediation is faster, more affordable, more private, and significantly less emotionally draining than court.
What is independent legal advice (ILA) in the context of mediation?
After mediation is complete, each person should meet separately with their own lawyer for independent legal advice before signing the final agreement. This confirms both parties understand the agreement that they took part in creating and are signing voluntarily (no funny business offline!) Independent legal advice also significantly strengthens the enforceability of the separation agreement if anyone wanted to challenge it in the future.
What happens if we cannot agree on everything in mediation?
Not every mediation ends with full agreement on every issue. Sometimes it helps narrow disagreements even if some issues still remain unresolved. You can bring your almost complete separation agreement to the court process. If necessary, the remaining issues can later be addressed through lawyers, arbitration, or litigation. Most end with an agreement and when they do not they often shorten the court process.
What are the benefits of using a lawyer as your mediator?
A lawyer mediator understands the legal implications behind the issues being negotiated, including parenting arrangements, property division, child support, spousal support, and equalization. This helps both parties make informed decisions while still avoiding the cost and hostility of full litigation.
When Mediation Is Right for You
This process works best when both parties are willing to communicate and reach a fair resolution, even if you disagree on some of the details. You do not need to be on perfect terms to benefit from this process. You just need to be open to it. Here is when it makes the most sense.
Just Need it in Writing
If you and your ex are aligned on all issues, our no-conflict separation agreement process is the fastest, most affordable path forward.
Some Disagreement
Do you have an unresolved issue around property, support, or parenting, and cannot figure it out on your own? Our low-conflict program ($2,750/person) gives you a structured, neutral space to work through them.
Complex Financials
Multiple properties, investments, pensions, or business interests? Can’t agree on what is theirs add yours? Our medium-conflict tier ($4,995/person) includes 3 sessions and a full equalization table.
Common-Law Separation
Mediation is available for common-law partners as well. Without default equalization rights, having a lawyer-mediator help you reach a documented agreement is especially important.
Protecting Your Children
Parents get to design parenting arrangements that work for their family, rather than having a court impose a schedule.
Avoiding Court
Court is slow, expensive, and public. We resolve most separation issues in 6–10 weeks at a fraction of the cost of litigation.
Privacy Matters
Unlike court proceedings, your separation stays entirely private. Nothing you discuss can be used as evidence in court if the process breaks down.
Business Owners & Professionals
You can protect sensitive business information and negotiate outcomes tailored to your industry, not a generic court order.
Domestic Violence
If there is domestic violence in the home, mediation may not be right for you. Our mediator-lawyer will be able to asses this.
If you’re ready to move forward without the cost of litigation, book a free 15-minute consultation to find out which of our three tiers fits your situation.
What Makes a Mediated Separation Agreement Enforceable in Ontario
Written & Signed
A mediated separation agreement must be in writing, signed by both parties, and witnessed to be legally binding under the Family Law Act.
Full Financial Disclosure
Both parties must disclose all assets, debts, and income. Concealing information during the process is grounds for a court to later set aside the agreement.
Independent Legal Advice
Both parties must have the opportunity to seek independent legal advice before signing. Angrove Law facilitates ILA referrals as part of every package.
No Coercion
Mediation is voluntary. If either party feels pressured or unsafe at any point, the process can and should stop.
Child-Centred Terms
Any terms regarding child support or parenting must align with the Child Support Guidelines and the best interests of the child.
Strict Neutrality
Our mediators maintain strict neutrality throughout the process, advising neither party, but ensuring both understand what is being agreed to.
When you mediate with Angrove Law, every step, from the initial consult to the final signature, is designed to produce an agreement that will hold up.
