Our Simple Process
How We Approach Every Case
Free 15-Min Consultation
Speak directly with your lawyer about your situation and what you are looking to accomplish. There is no charge and no pressure to move forward. We work with clients who are looking for domestic contracts, mediated separation agreements, and uncontested separation agreements. We do not provide trial (litigation) legal services.
Share Your Documents
We review your financial situation, verify your identity, help you complete the legal services agreement, and explain the next steps clearly so you know exactly what to expect.
Two Meetings
We provide you with a questionnaire that you may fill out with or without your partner depending on the legal services you need. We then meet with you to understand your needs, draft your agreement, and make sure everyone is on the same page from the start. You will be provided with meeting notes and informational videos throughout the process.
Review & Finalize
We review the completed agreement with you carefully, answer any remaining questions, and make sure everything accurately reflects your intentions before signing. We can offer recommendations for independent legal advice for your partner, if applicable.
Live Virtual Signing
We review the completed agreement, answer any remaining questions, and make sure everything accurately reflects your intentions before signing with you virtually.

Our Approach to Family Law
Angrove Law is a boutique firm based in Toronto and serving clients across Ontario. We help clients with prenuptial agreements, separation agreements, cohabitation agreements, divorce mediation, wills and estates, and independent legal advice through a clear process designed to feel approachable, collaborative, and easy to follow. Support numbers usually come up early, so we also built a free Ontario spousal support calculator and an Ontario child support calculator you can run before your first call.
Many people expect working with a lawyer to feel stressful, expensive, or overly complicated. We do things differently. Our goal is to make sure you understand the process from start to finish before signing a legal services agreement. Right from our free consult call we make your case easier to navigate, and far less intimidating than most people expect.
What Can Family Lawyers do (and not do)?
In Ontario the Family Law applies to everyone and affects some of the most important parts of your life, including your relationships, finances, home, children, and future plans. The laws are generally guided by 3 acts; the Divorce Act, the Family Law Act, and the Childrens Law Reform Act. Our role is to help you navigate your options clearly and put the right legal protections in place before problems arise.
How do we make legal services easier for you?
Clear billing structure with flat-fee pricing options for the majority of our services.
No retainers. We don’t ask for large deposits before starting your file.
100% virtual. We serve clients across Ontario without requiring an in-person visit.
Why Torontonians Choose Angrove Law
Most law firms still operate on hourly billing and large upfront retainers which can cause financial stress about your legal service, before the process even begins. At Angrove Law, we focus on efficiency and lowering both costs and emotional strain. We provide alternative dispute resolution, such as mediations, and what we like to call proactive law, such as marriage contracts.
If you would like to hire a ‘shark’ or a trial lawyer we can provide recommendations but we may not be the right fit for you. Our lawyers take on divorces with low to medium level of conflict through our mediation program.
“We built Angrove Law around accessibility, transparency, and communication. That means approachable lawyers, plain language explanations, and a process that keeps things moving without unnecessary stress or confusion.”
~ Hilary Angrove, CEO of Angrove Law
All of our agreements are prepared in accordance with Ontario family law requirements, including the Family Law Act where applicable.

Why choose Angrove Law as your lawyers?
Frequently Asked Questions
What family law services does Angrove Law offer?
Marriage contracts, cohabitation agreements, separation agreements, divorce mediation, independent legal advice, postnuptial agreements, donor agreements, foreign divorce opinion letters, and wills and estates. All services are provided virtually with flat fee pricing and no retainers.
How much does a family lawyer cost?
Most law firms charge $300 – $700 / hour and require thousands in retain fees up front. We do things differently. We use flat fee pricing so clients know the total cost before work begins. There are no retainers and no hourly billing within the scope of work. Pricing depends on the legal service and complexity of the matter, and your quote is confirmed during the consultation.
Do I need to visit an office to work with a lawyer?
No. Angrove Law head office is in Toronto but it takes clients virtually across Ontario. You can book, consult, review documents, and sign entirely online. We use secure video calls for consultations and virtual signing sessions. No commuting, no waiting rooms, no parking.
What is the difference between a separation agreement and a divorce?
A separation agreement is a contract. It deals with property, support, and parenting. Essentially, everything that needs to be sorted out when a relationship ends. A divorce is the court order that legally ends the marriage itself. You will need a divorce before you get remarried but it will not sort out the issues. You don’t need a divorce to have a valid separation agreement, and you don’t need a separation agreement to get a divorce. But most people do both. The agreement needs to come first to settle the practical issues, and the divorce later, once you’re ready or required to formally end the marriage at law.
What is independent legal advice (ILA) and when is it required?
Independent legal advice means having your own lawyer review and explain an agreement before you sign it. In Ontario, it is highly recommended for marriage contracts, cohabitation agreements, separation agreements, and other important legal documents to help ensure both parties understand what they are signing.
Can Angrove Law represent both spouses?
No, legally, a lawyer can only represent one party in a legal agreement. Angrove Law represents one spouse. We can connect the other party with a trusted Ontario lawyer for independent legal advice (ILA). This protects both parties and helps ensure the agreement is enforceable. We take a collaborative approach to reduce the back and forth with another lawyer. Book a consultation to learn more about our unique process.
How long does it take to complete aggreements at Angrove Law?
Most of our agreements are prepared within 1-2 weeks after receiving the required information. The overall timeline depends on how quickly you get your documents back to us and when you can book a time to get them reviewed, revised, and signed by everyone involved.
When Should You Consult a Family Lawyer?
You do not need to be going through a conflict to benefit from working with a lawyer. Many of our clients come to us proactively, whether that means getting a prenup before marriage, protecting assets before moving in together, or updating a will after a major life change.
Getting Married
A marriage contract (prenup) protects your assets, clarifies financial expectations, and prevents Ontario’s default property rules from applying if things change.
Moving in Together
Common-law couples in Ontario have fewer automatic rights than married couples. A cohabitation agreement gives you both clarity and legal protection.
Separating
A separation agreement lets you and your partner divide assets, arrange support, and make parenting decisions without going to court, saving time, money, and stress. Our guides cover what a separation agreement includes and how spousal support in Ontario is decided.
Planning Your Estate
A will and powers of attorney ensure your assets go exactly where you want, and that someone you trust speaks for you if you’re ever unable to.
Starting or Running a Business
Shareholder agreements, employment contracts, and independent contractor agreements protect your business interests and clarify obligations from day one.
Signing a Contract
Independent legal advice (ILA) ensures you fully understand any contract before you sign it, whether it’s a separation agreement, cohabitation agreement, or business contract. We also explain the certificate of independent legal advice your lawyer signs.
Family Planning via Donor
Known donor agreements protect all parties when using ovum or sperm donation to start or grow a family in Ontario.
Foreign Divorce Recognition
If your divorce was granted outside Canada, we provide an opinion letter confirming its recognition under Ontario law.
